What the UK Riots Meant To Me

The strategy of it is what's startled me. I sometimes wonder what makes historic times - how do people know before they happen? These last few years, my thoughts have leant toward more. extreme scenarios. Despite the in-roads we're making, a slither of that despair remains. So I've found myself asking, 'is this how a new far right emerges? Coordinated, violent, emboldened by the immune actions of our governments, and the sheer possibility of audacity. Is this how it ends - how we end?' Still, I refuse to give them my peace.

Eljae. She watched the recent violence in the streets across the UK, encroaching on her and her loved one's safety, with deep disquiet. Unsurprised by this jingoism, masquerading as righteous indignation, she is most angered by those choosing to use Bebe, Elsie, and Alice's deaths to fuel hate. Instead, Eljae believes focusing on their memories and mourning is how we best honour them.
